It’s anyone’s worst nightmare. You’ve paid your pound for the lottery ticket, you’ve waited for your numbers to come...and sure enough they did! You are ecstatic! But then, your ticket disappears, along with all of your hopes, dreams and plans.
Losing a winning lottery ticket is not something that we give much though to, but sadly, it does happen.
In fact, it happened in America very recently. Willis Willis asked a store worker, Pankaj Joshi, to check if he had won anything on the Mega Millions draw. The worker told Willis that the ticket had no matching numbers but then ran off with the winning ticket.
The shop worker then claimed the $1 million and fled to Nepal. An arrest warrant has now been issued and Joshi could face up to 20 years in jail if he is convicted.
This serves as a warning to protect our winning lottery numbers. The player is responsible for the safety of a lottery ticket and if they cannot present the winning lottery ticket, then they will not receive the prize.
The best way to protect yourself is by writing your name and address on the back of the ticket. That way, even if your ticket does fall into the wrong hands, you are more protected from them getting their hands on your cash.
